Boho lighting is all about finding the perfect balance between natural materials and character, where light becomes a statement feature in your home.

Boho lighting serves as the centrepiece for creating a warm, authentic atmosphere. Defined by raw or woven materials, organic shapes and natural finishes—often made with rattan, bamboo, raffia or linen—these fittings stand out in any interior. You’ll find boho lights in the form of airy pendant lights, sculptural wall lights and soft-lined floor lamps. This style favours light neutral tones, plant-based fibres and shadow play, resulting in gentle, enveloping illumination. Choose from compact 20 cm shades, ideal in multiples above a kitchen island, to extra-large pendants up to 80 cm to make a statement in the living room. Boho lighting works in any space, from living rooms to bedrooms and dining areas.

The best materials for boho lighting

Rattan: Hand-woven rattan transforms boho lights into true one-offs. A 40 cm rattan shade emits a cosy glow and creates striking light patterns on the walls. For a dining table 120–160 cm wide, look for pendants 50–60 cm across. Rattan is compatible with LED bulbs up to 15W (1200 lumens) for safe, efficient lighting.

Bamboo: Lighter and more open in structure, bamboo is perfect for airy, natural fittings. A boho bamboo light between 30 and 50 cm suits bedrooms and hallways, while bamboo’s humidity resistance is ideal for bathrooms (choose IP44 for moisture protection).

Linen and natural fibres: Linen, cotton and raffia bring a subtle, textural touch to boho fittings. A 35 cm linen shade produces soft, calming illumination, ideal for the bedroom. Keep natural fibres dust-free with a gentle brush or anti-static duster.

How to choose the size and brightness of boho lighting for each room

In living rooms of 20–30 m², choose a boho pendant light from 60 to 80 cm diameter, hung at 210 cm from the floor. Aim for 2000–3000 lumens in total—usually two or three 10–15W LED bulbs. In bedrooms, a 30–40 cm light is enough, with lower-brightness bulbs (800–1200 lumens at 2700K) for a cosy effect. In kitchens, group several small boho pendants, 20–25 cm wide, 60 cm apart over a worktop for task and decorative light.

For dining rooms, the rule of thumb: your boho pendant should be about half the width of your table. For a 180 cm table, choose a fitting 80–90 cm wide and hang it 75–90 cm above the surface to prevent glare.

In damp rooms, select boho lights with the right protection: at least IP44 for bathrooms and IP20 for dry spaces. Bamboo and lacquered rattan are better suited to moisture.

Rattan pendant lights: Perfect for defining space, hang them alone or clustered. A 60 cm model above a round table creates a natural focal point. For hallways, choose a compact 30 cm model hung at 220 cm from the floor.

Rattan wall lights: Ideal for accent lighting in corridors or as bedside wall lights. A 25 cm boho wall light casts a gentle, decorative glow—install at 120 cm from the floor for an inviting atmosphere.

Bamboo floor lamps: A 150–170 cm tall boho floor lamp with a 10W LED bulb (800 lumens) illuminates a reading nook with ease. Bamboo bases offer sturdy yet light visual appeal.

For care, dust natural fibres regularly with a soft brush. Avoid liquid cleaners on unfinished rattan or bamboo. For fabric boho lights, gently vacuum with a low-power setting.

Pair boho lighting with a Berber rug or natural fibre mirrors for an even more authentic feel.
