Bubble lamps : faites le bon choix

The bubble lamp is a sculptural statement that transforms lighting into a true work of art.

A bold choice for anyone looking to combine contemporary design with controlled light diffusion, the bubble lamp’s silhouette of hand-blown glass globes, whether opal or clear, brings an airy, floating feel to your space while making a strong visual impact. Available as a table lamp, floor lamp or pendant light, the bubble sizes range from 10 to 30 cm, often mounted on brass, matt black or chrome frames. This versatile light suits both spacious living rooms and minimalist bedrooms, offering multiple sizes and adjustable light intensity depending on the number of globes and LED bulb wattage used.

What materials and finishes for a high-end bubble lamp?

Blown glass: Blown glass is the signature material for bubble lamps, diffusing light evenly for a warm, inviting glow without glare. Lamps in opal glass (milky white) soften and diffuse the light, perfect for relaxing areas. Clear glass versions highlight the form of each globe and are ideal for showcasing decorative filament bulbs. Glass thickness typically ranges from 2 to 5 mm, ensuring both strength and elegance.

Lacquered metal or brass: Globes are often supported by brushed brass, chrome-plated steel or matt black metal structures. Brass adds an elegant, timeless touch, while matt black pairs seamlessly with modern interiors. For a sophisticated finish, some designs combine glass with gold or copper details.

If you love pure glass, the glass ceiling lights collection offers complementary options to the bubble lamp, ideal for creating a unified look in any room.

What size and brightness for each room?

Your choice depends on the space and desired effect. For a living room of 20 to 30 m², opt for a bubble floor lamp with 5 to 7 globes, each with a 5 to 8 W LED bulb (equivalent to 40 to 60 W halogen), giving a total output of 2000 to 3500 lumens. Over a dining table, a central pendant with three or five 20 cm globes is perfect for illuminating a 180 cm table. In a bedroom, a bubble table lamp with a 15 cm globe and a 4 W bulb (300-400 lumens) creates a soft reading light.

Pendant bubble lights should hang 75 to 90 cm above a table, or about 210 cm above the floor for an open space. Table lamp versions range from 35 to 60 cm tall, while bubble floor lamps can reach 160 to 180 cm to visually anchor a seating area.

For a cohesive look, pair a sphere pendant light with your bubble lamp, especially in open-plan spaces, where repeating spherical forms creates a strong visual link.

How to use a bubble lamp in a modern interior?

Contemporary style: The bubble lamp fits beautifully with clean lines, natural materials and neutral palettes. It works well in a minimalist living room, on a light wood sideboard or next to a textured fabric sofa. For graphic impact, choose a model with multiple aligned or clustered globes to add structure without overwhelming the space.

Vintage or mid-century atmosphere: Brushed brass and opal glass versions recall designs from the 1960s and 1970s. Pair them with walnut furniture or geometric textiles for a subtle retro touch. A bubble floor lamp with a tripod base or a table lamp with a tulip foot completes this look.

For a statement piece, the bubble floor lamp collection includes spectacular designs, ideal for large rooms or entrance halls.

In the bedroom, a bubble lamp can replace a traditional bedside lamp. Choose a compact table version or a single-globe pendant hung at 120 cm for targeted bedside reading. LED bulbs with a colour temperature of 2700 to 3000 K are recommended for warm, relaxing light.

For even more harmony, the bedside lamps collection offers other spherical or minimalist designs to mix and match as you wish.

Bubble lamps are easy to care for: simply wipe the glass with a slightly damp microfibre cloth to keep it dust-free and streak-free. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could dull the surface. For brass elements, occasional polishing with a special product keeps the metal shining.

If you want to extend the bubble look to other fixtures, the bubble lighting range lets you combine different formats and uses – from ceiling lights to pendants – for a visually consistent home.
