Straw pendant lights : faites le bon choix

Natural light takes centre stage with the straw pendant light, a striking feature for authentic interiors.

The straw pendant light is a bold option for anyone seeking a warm, organic atmosphere. Crafted from woven plant fibres, it offers both raw beauty and functionality. Models range from minimalist straw pendants, 40cm in diameter and perfect for a bedroom, to XXL designs over 80cm, ideal for a dining room or spacious lounge. The lightweight straw structure allows for airy, often conical or spherical shapes that diffuse a soft, gentle glow. This ceiling light fits beautifully in bohemian or contemporary settings looking to embrace natural materials.

Which styles and finishes can you choose for straw pendant lights?

Woven straw pendants: Woven designs feature a wide variety of patterns, from tightly plaited shades that filter the light to open weaves casting graphic shadow patterns. A woven straw pendant with a 60cm diameter is suitable for a 15–20m² room, hanging 70–90cm above a table.

Natural straw pendants: The untreated, raw finish highlights straw’s golden tone. This colour works well with white walls, light wood or neutral fabrics. For a more sophisticated style, some models add black metal or brass accents for an elegant contrast.

XXL straw pendants: Large sizes (80–100cm) are recommended for rooms with high ceilings (over 2.7m). They dominate the space as a focal point while ensuring effective general lighting. For even illumination without overheating the natural fibre, use an LED E27 bulb between 10 and 15W (800–1500 lumens).

To explore more natural pendant lights, the straw pendant collection offers sleeker styles or options for smaller rooms.

How do you choose the size and brightness of your straw pendant light?

The right straw pendant depends on the space to light and your ceiling height. For a dining room of 12–15m², a 50–60cm diameter shade hung 80cm above the table gives the perfect balance between visual presence and atmospheric light. For lounges of 20–30m², choose a straw pendant of 70–90cm, installed at 2.1m above the floor for comfortable clearance and to avoid glare.

When it comes to bulbs, pick a warm white temperature (2700–3000K) and avoid anything above 15W LED to protect the natural fibres. An IP20 protection rating is fine for dry rooms; for kitchens or bathrooms, opt for a model with a closed diffuser or install it away from damp zones.

For perfect harmony with other natural lighting, the natural fibre lights collection includes pendants, wall lights and floor lamps in plant materials.

Care and decorative pairings for straw pendant lights

Straw pendants require minimal upkeep: regular dusting with a feather duster or a soft brush is enough. Avoid excess moisture, which could distort the material. Some models are treated against moths and UV rays to prevent yellowing over time.

Styling-wise, straw pendant lights pair beautifully with rattan mirrors, jute rugs or light wood furniture. For a cohesive look, combine them with a wicker ceiling light in adjoining rooms, or a natural pendant light to mix up the shapes while keeping a consistent palette of materials.

Finally, fans of natural ceiling lights should consider the straw flush ceiling lights collection for compact options—perfect for hallways or minimalist bedrooms.
