Wall art: a wide choice of paintings, prints and frames : faites le bon choix

A piece of wall art transforms a blank wall into a focal point and changes the feel of the whole room around it.

There is something special about the relationship you build with a piece of art. Rarely do you choose a painting just to match your sofa — you pick it because it speaks to you, evokes emotion, or gives your space a new dimension. At Lumeers, our collection offers a wide range of wall art and frames: abstract canvas paintings, framed photographic prints, botanical artworks, city scenes, and geometric compositions. Choose with or without a frame, as a large statement piece or a smaller artwork to display on a console or bookshelf. So many ways to add intention and personality to your walls.

Which wall art suits your interior style?

Style matters — not for following strict rules, but to avoid clashing looks that come from mixing completely different universes too quickly.

In a Scandinavian or minimalist space, black-and-white abstract art, simple botanical prints, or monochrome photography works perfectly. Look for clean lines, a vertical or square format, and simple frames — natural wood, slim metal, or frameless on a stretcher. These pieces complement your decor without overwhelming it.

In a bohemian or natural interior, embrace more colour and texture. Artworks in earthy shades — ochre, terracotta, khaki green, beige — feel at home here. Botanical art, African landscapes, ink geometric designs, or illustrations of tropical plants all fit beautifully in spaces that celebrate natural materials and artisan touches.

For a classic or period home, you can go bolder with the frame itself — gilded, ornate, or moulded. Classic master prints, genre scenes, or still lifes feel right at home, especially when combined with modern elements for a fresh contrast.

In a contemporary or urban space, black-and-white street photography, typography posters, graphic illustrations, and bold abstract canvases are ideal. Large statement pieces or curated groups of smaller works bring impact and cohesion.

Large or small, statement or gallery wall: How do you choose the right size?

The size of your art — or art grouping — relative to the wall is a common pitfall. A piece that's too small floats awkwardly; too large and it swamps the room.

For a single piece, a good rule is that it should fill between 57 and 75% of the width of the furniture or wall area above which it hangs. So, above a 200 cm sofa, opt for 120–150 cm wide art. Above a narrow chest of drawers, 60–80 cm is sufficient.

A gallery wall or collection of artworks is a great way to fill large spaces with flexibility you can’t get from one piece alone. The key is visual coherence despite varied sizes — stick to one colour palette, frame type, or theme for continuity. Lay your frames out on the floor before hanging — this is the best tip to avoid regrets once nails are in the wall.

The ideal height for hanging is with the centre of the artwork at 145–155 cm from the floor — eye level for most adults, and the standard used in museums for good reason. In hallways you can go a little lower, or a little higher in rooms with tall ceilings, but never too close to the ceiling.
